Stresa-Fondotoce-Mergozzo

A trail among Lake Maggiore’s amazing blooms; Camelias, Rhododendrons and Azaleas will make colorful and special your bike tour, in particular in April and May.

Start from Bike Hotel Meeting and follow SS 33 (road signs to Verbania), pass Feriolo’s roundabout and turn right at the sign Camping Isolino, here starts the cycle path along Toce River, that leads to the Special Nature Reserve of the thicket of Fondotoce, a European protected area.

Then take the asphalted provincial road to Mergozzo for few meters and get back on the path (following the signs towards Mergozzo). Get through the Sports Field and continue until the end of the path.

Then follow the road signs to reach Mergozzo’s lakeside and enjoy the landscape.

Continue along Mergozzo’s lakeside and take the blue path (Sentiero Azzurro) near the perimeter of the lake. Then, after a short part on asphalted road, return to the off-road path and get through the campsites towards Fondotoce. Once you reach the roundabout follow directions for Baveno/Stresa.

The whole path is signaled by red signals.

Curiosity: Fondotoce Nature Reserve is the largest wetland and thicket of Lake Maggiore, is inhabited by several animals like reptiles, amphibians, foxes, badgers, weasels and of course many lake fish species.
