Montorfano

This trail leads to the top of Montorfano, the small Mount between Verbano, Cusio and Ossola Valley. Due to its central location, this is the perfect point to take some photographs of the magnificient panorama on Lake Maggiore.

Start from Stresa and proceed to Feriolo along the main road SS 33, at Isolino campsite in Feriolo turn right. Here take the off road path along Toce River and cycle for about 4 km. Once you are back on the asphalted road continue for 100 meters and take, on the right, the uphill road to Linea Cadorna (a network of military fortifications dating back to World War I which was supposed to defend the territory from a potential Austro-German attack through Switzerland). Follow this off road path, that develops near barracks made of stone blocks set and military artefacts of remarkable beauty characterised by the unique ability to use the stone.

Then cycle on the road previously taken, turn right at the crossroads and continue back down to Montorfano for about 3 km. Then cycle along the railway tracks until you reach the crossroad, turn left and continue along the cycle path of Toce River. From Feriolo you can return to Stresa cycling along SS 33.
